We are blessed in the great state of Oregon to have many natural beauties.
The Pacific Ocean, the Cascade Mountains, The Columbia river Gorge and Multnomah Falls are hard to beat.
Crater Lake National Park might do it though.
The water is so blue it looks fake.
The Snow is the whitest I’ve ever seen.
The Stars look close enough to touch.
You feel like you are on another planet when you are there regardless of the time of year.
As an Oregonian the first time I was there I was embarrassed I hadn’t been there before.
It is that special.
I had that same feeling of embarrassment last night as a movie fan when I watched Seven Samurai for the first time.
It is that special.
I had lived in Oregon for almost 20 years before I finally made it to Crater lake in 2006.
My younger brother had spent the previous summer working for the national park service and living at the lake and he insisted we make a trip there the next summer.
School, not being much of a mountain guy and mostly being a young punk is why it took me 17 years as an Oregonian to get to Crater lake.
I have a complete and udder lack of excuses for why as a movie fan I hadn’t watched the masterpiece that is Seven Samurai until last night.
A three hour movie that feels half that long.
Beautiful to look at.
Amazing to listen to.
The Performances jump off the screen SO much that I know I could’ve watched it without subtitles and known what was going on the whole time.
Funny, endearing, and smarter than anything from 1954 should be, it is instantly one of my favorite movies.
