I’ve compiled what I feel is a list of the best sports movies to come out since I was born in 1978.

And while it might be missing a few that you’d assume would be on there (Hoosiers most notably) I think it is a good list.

Most sports movies and most of the movies on my list follow the Rocky formula.

A athlete down on his luck finds unexpected success usually with the help of an older mentor and then proves the doubters and themselves wrong.

Which makes for a pretty good movie.

If I was alive when the original Rocky came out it would most certainly be on this list.

My dilemma is with what is and what isn’t a sports movie? How much sports actually have to be in them?

Is a movie like Dazed and Confused a sports movie?

It is easily one of my favorite movies of all time. I thought a long time about putting it on this list and I still might.

High school Football is pretty much the driving force behind the plot of the movie.

Is Pink going to sign the promise sheet and play in the fall as a senior or not?

If Daved and Confused makes the list Everybody Wants Some!! will too and it might make sense as Richard Linklater’s sports movie duo.
